Skolen på Bülowsvej
Pause, play and education. The new playground at the extension to the School at Bülowsvej creates coherence between the new and the old, between inside and outside and between the activities taking place at the school.
The School at Bülowsvej has changed continuously over the past 20 years, most recently with a new building that sets a framework for the introductory period and after school care. The school buildings are already connected by a large green courtyard that, with the new extension, becomes even more so an integral part of the school's architecture.
The courtyard of the new school building and the transition of Thorvaldsensvej at the main entrance consist of several longitudinal bands which work to merge the area with the existing softly curved landscape in the schoolyard. The new courtyard is in this way creating links between different school buildings that are now experienced as a whole.
The new courtyard is designed for play and learning. The multi-hall floor is visually pulled out on the surface, so that activities can take place inside and outside simultaneously. The courtyard has intimate seating for outdoor teaching for small groups. The seats are concrete edges that surround beds of tall sheltering grasses. On the rubber surface to the north, concrete tables that act as an outdoor laboratory are placed. Here it is possible to set up microscopes to look at butterflies, insects or frogs (from the new rainwater reservoir), an astronomical telescope, etc., related to teaching.
