Commissioned by the architectural firm, LiWplanning created the detailing for the renovation of the outdoor areas around Tingbjerg School in 2009. Across the schoolyard, a pattern of colored circles, letters and hopscotch squares stretches across the ground, encouraging spontaneous and imaginative games for the children. On sunny days, the pattern on the paving and the furniture in the schoolyard allow it to be used for outdoor lectures. The schoolyard also contains playgrounds in oval shaped spaces which are lined with rubber flooring material. The existing plateaus are preserved as an open spatial element. The varying step heights and occasional missing levels support motor skill development in younger children, and give older children a chance for individual or one-on-one interaction by creating small semi-private areas that allow for quieter activities.
